CareGiver: Designing, Developing, and Evaluating an Accessible, Culturally Sensitive AI Conversational Agent for Mental Health Support in Filipino Adolescents
The CareGiver project addresses the critical disparity between the escalating mental health crisis among Filipino adolescents and the pervasive inaccessibility of formal mental health support.
The general objective of this project is to design, develop, and clinically evaluate CareGiver, an AI-enhanced conversational agent, to provide foundational, culturally sensitive mental health support and promote early help-seeking behavior among youths.
It is neither designed, validated, or licensed to substitute for long-term psychological counseling, therapy, or psychiatric treatment.
Due to the system’s inability to exercise human clinical judgment during severe distress, the research output/CareGiver Website is delimited by its mandatory reliance on a professionally validated crisis protocol, which enforces immediate human intervention (hotline linkage or referral) upon detection of high-risk indicators (e.g., suicidal ideation)
